When we describe God as “good,” we mean His goodness is evident—defined by the standards revealed in Scripture. The “Gospel” (good news) is truly good because it reflects God’s character: loving, kind, patient, fair, just, and unmistakably clear. In essence, the truth about God is good because He is good—demonstrably good. Just as selfless caregivers are rightly called “good,” we call God “good” for the same reason—not out of obligation or fear, but because His actions reveal His goodness. Biblically, goodness is marked by a willingness to provide for those in need, and this is exactly what God does through His Son, Jesus Christ.

While God’s ways may sometimes seem mysterious, even difficult passages in Scripture can be understood in ways that align with His good nature. The Bible consistently portrays a loving God who treats His creation with unmistakable goodness—a God who shows no favoritism, makes Himself clearly known, and is glorified not by exploiting His creation, but by sacrificing Himself for it. He demonstrates His love by freely offering salvation to all, not out of compulsion, but because it’s His very nature.

This book addresses pressing questions like: What happens to those who never hear the Gospel? How can God be good when some biblical stories portray Him as severe? Can we truly call God good if we don’t perceive His goodness?
